Hello. I'm the freelance writer who gets tech.

My USP? I've worked in the science and technology sectors I write about, bringing a unique level of understanding and experience most writers cannot offer. I also run the Science is Simple site to break down science, one (LEGO) brick at a time.

No topic is too complex. What can I write for you?

Do you need to translate complicated scientific or technical principles into accessible and compelling articles? With two degrees in Physics and scientific research experience, I write accurate and informative pieces on a wide range of complex technical topics.

Do you need help with your blog posts, brochures, press releases, case studies or website copy? I write for a variety of technical and non-technical companies. If you need help with your blog, want to improve your website's words or just need killer copy - I'm here to help.

Do you want me to transform your notes, thoughts, presentations and company documents into engaging copy? I ghostwrite for a range of CxOs and businesses to bring a professional finish to their copy. Click here to find out how this business relationship works.

I began my writing career at Cambridge University for the institution's science and technology magazine, Bluesci. I now have more than 15 years' experience in science and technology writing and am based in Cambridgeshire.

I have two Masters degrees in Physics, one from York University and the other from Cambridge University.  I have worked as a journalist, software developer, research scientist and marketing executive for a range of innovative software companies, publishing houses and blue chip company Reuters.

I also appeared on the cult Channel 4 game show 'Countdown' and managed to win one of the show's elusive teapots.

Rarely, does one have the pure pleasure of working with a colleague as intelligent and professional as I have had working with Gemma Church. She has added a full new dimension to our publication, is a team member's team member, and is an indispensable part of our organization. Selfishly, I'd like to keep her to ourselves, but knowing the bandwidth of her interests I just can't do so, and I highly recommend Gemma to any objective that she says she's interesting in taking on... this is one person that you can trust to do more than you will have asked for.

Gemma is great at turning complex ideas into compelling prose. We've genuinely seen a great improvement in website traffic based on Gemma's blogs. Her style is authoratitive but friendly - she isn't afraid to research and tackle technical subjects and can make turn them into an interesting read. Gemma totally understands how blogging contributes to the marketing mix and can advise on a wider strategy to engage customers and drive traffic to our site. Highly recommended.

Gemma is an outstanding writer about science and technology. She combines an understanding of the subject-matter due to her own education as a scientist, with the ability to write in clear and understandable terms. More than that, she creates a well-structured narrative that catches and retains the reader's interest. I have worked with her over quite a few years both while she was working at Europa Science and now she is working as a freelance science writer. I can unhesitatingly recommend her.

I regularly go to Gemma requesting she writes our ‘Affordable Tech’ feature. Her extensive knowledge of the technology industry means that it is always a very well informed piece in the magazine, regardless of the subject matter we choose. She provides articles on time, every time, and she understands exactly what we’re looking for. She’s also made interesting recommendations in the past of topics to cover, which have been very successful. Gemma is fantastic.

Gemma has provided La Fosse with a range of content, recently covering our Fuse event. She excels at the core elements of her role as a freelance writer, understands and translates technical principles with ease, meets deadlines and approaches each project with professionalism. To steal Gemma's tagline, I would recommend her as a "freelance writer who gets tech" to anyone.

Gemma is one of those rare talents. An engaging writing style, with an in-depth understanding of science of technology. As a deep-tech company, there is always a struggle to get writers who understand the gist of the tech and explain it in an engaging style. Gemma ticks all the boxes. She has worked with us on writing case-studies and has done a fantastic job. I look forward to continue working with her.

PROWLER.io is working on a continuous basis with Gemma to provide a range of copy on using Artificial Intelligence in decision-making. I have been very impressed with Gemma's understanding of the complex mathematical concepts we use, the technical insights she can provide, and her ability to translate these into compelling content that matches the target audience. Her unique skill set makes her perfectly placed to work with PROWLER.io.

I write extensively on a number of topics, including entrepreneurship, innovation, and FinTech. Very often I use language and concepts that are challenging to consistently present in ways that are engaging, easy to understand, and compelling to read. I have been working with Gemma for a couple of years. What I have found, and truly appreciate, is that she excels at making the complex relatable, tangible, and even fun. Her ability to research, edit, and synthesize elusive and at times esoteric material and drafts that I give her, often with minimum guidance, is second to none. Moreover, the speed with which she grasps new concepts is nothing short of impressive. Most of all, Gemma is very easy to work with, and willing to endure multiple rounds of edits and rewrites to ensure that I am always pleased with my final output.

In other news... Professor Brian Cox called me his "scientific peer" on Twitter after I called him arrogant and wrote this review about his science roadshow. This made my day.

Reviews from scientific peers are always welcome, but I'm always a little nervous reading them ! https://t.co/RiulMlMKNW

And author extraordinaire Simon Singh thanked me for my "kind words" after I blogged about Fermat's Last Theorem, professors eating underpants and how your mum is always right...

Maths v Physics
(Gemma, thanks for the kind words) https://t.co/cZ6wqWckLE
